Handbuilt Tableware is a 6-week handbuilding course for the intermediate/advanced handbuilder!

In this class students will explore the functional ceramics and their relationship to the dinner table. Students will create properly functioning forms of dinnerware such as:  sets, creating plates, bowls, cups, serving dishes, and centerpieces.  Students will utilize coil, pinch, slab, and mold building techniques while working one-on-one with the instructor.

 Instructors and students will focus on clay body choice and the proper treatment and finishing of pieces to ensure wares are food safe and can withstand heavy use.

  The class fee includes 1 bags of clay, glazing and firing fees, and use of all tools and equipment at Clay By The Bay!  Each student will receive their own shelf and have access to Open Studio Hours. This access is unlimited during the 6-week course.

Projects include: Sets, bowls, plates, platters, serving bowls, etc.

Suggested prerequisite: Intro to Hand Building (1-3 times)

Includes:

    • A 25-lb bag of clay
    • Firing/baking of your pottery
    • Glazes/materials
    • Use of studio machinery, tools and equipment
    • 18"x14"x15" personal shelf storage space at CBTB
    • Access to Open Studio Hours (Monday-Sunday 10 AM-6 PM). This access is unlimited during the 6-week course!

Projects include: Plates, bowls, cups, serving dishes, centerpieces, and more!

Follow-up class suggestions: Register for in-studio membership and/or advanced courses and workshops!

Please note that the minimum age to register for this class is 16 years old.

    • Q: Can I make up a class?
      • A: Yes!  We do our best to work with your schedule to fine time to make up your lesson in one of our other classes, but we cannot guarantee schedules or space will allow. 
    • Q: When are Open Studio Hours?
      • A: Daily from 10AM to 6PM. 
    • Q: Can I ask questions during the class?
      • A: Of course!  Part of the reason why we have in-person classes is so we can interact with one another and the instructor.
