Clay By The Bay is thrilled to be hosting Tatiana Cardona (@female.alchemy) for our AUGUST 2022 workshop artist.
100% of the registration proceeds will be donated DIRECTLY to the artist, to support the ever growing community of talent we strive to nurture
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tatiana Cardona is a Miami-based modern artist, who runs the shop Female Alchemy. She creates functional ceramic art vessels which are instantly recognizable by her signature voluptuous lips lined in reds and pinks. Cardona started her ceramic journey in college, where she majored in Fine Art. It is here where her inspiration for her work began. The concept of lips as a statement was inspired by the feminist movement in the 60’s-70’s when red lipstick was used as a symbol of protest. Her work has since evolved into a positive and playful way to promote femininity in the sacred and ancient medium of ceramics. Cardona continues to find new ways to captivate her audience by releasing new collections of work for her online audience each month. .
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: Lets learn how to make some Female Alchemy lips! In this workshop we will be learning how to sculpt and attach lips seamlessly. You will not be limited to sculpting lips, you can let your imagination run wild and I will be there to guide you. We will begin by throwing a vessel on the wheel, allowing our intuition and imagination to form our shape. Later we will be choosing a lip expression that best represents our mood and sculpting it to then attach it seamlessly to our wheel thrown vessel. Techniques covered will include wheel throwing (must have some level of experience), hand-building techniques, clay surface manipulation and glaze application.
WORKSHOP MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Basic throwing and trimming tools - Basic Hand building clay tools - Amaco Velvet Underglazes (colors of your choice but red and pinks are recommended for lips) - Paint brushes
WORKSHOP TIME & LOCATION: Friday night preceding the workshop will be an Artist Talk from 7-9pm where everyone in the community is invited to meet & greet the artist and hear more about their craft!
Saturday & Sunday from 11am-3pm you will have a reserved seat to learn from the artist and work along side them to expand your ceramic skillset! Registration will be for BOTH events, and a lunch break will be included.
All activities will be hosted at Clay By The Bay's facilities (1618 Pacific Ave, San Francisco, 94109)
We can't wait for you to join us!
