Clay By The Bay is thrilled to be hosting Katie Marks (@anotherseattleartist) for our APRIL 2022 workshop artist.

100% of the registration proceeds will be donated DIRECTLY to the artist, to support the ever growing community of talent we strive to nurture

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Katie Marks is a ceramic artist located in Portland, OR. Born in San Francisco, she grew up in Seattle, WA. From the age of 3 she has had a passion for clay, and began wheel throwing in 2007. Katie studied under her mentor, ceramic artist Matthew Patton, for 4 years (2012-2016) as his dedicated apprentice and studio assistant. In 2013, Katie started Silver Lining Ceramics out of her studio apartment in Seattle’s Belltown area.

Inspired by the otherworldly-yet-purposeful beauty of nature and the cosmos, Katie’s work plays with color and texture to create joyous forms that are also functional sculptures.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

In this workshop I am going to teach you how to create a three-piece wheel thrown bubbler. We will start the workshop on the wheel throwing the base as a closed form, the down-stem off the hump, and the mouthpiece as a narrow cylinder working on collaring techniques. We will then combine these three elements by hand building them into one fully functional piece. Even if you don’t partake this is a great way to expand on your throwing skills. .

WORKSHOP MATERIALS REQUIRED: TBA

WORKSHOP TIME & LOCATION: Friday night will be an Artist Talk from 7-9pm where everyone in the community is invited to meet & greet the artist and hear more about their craft!

Saturday & Sunday from 11am-3pm you will have a reserved seat to learn from the artist and work along side them to expand your ceramic skillset!  Registration will be for BOTH events, and a lunch break will be included.

All activities will be hosted at Clay By The Bay's facilities (1618 Pacific Ave, San Francisco, 94109)

We can't wait for you to join us!
