February 2023 | Tiffany Thomas (She/Her) - Captivating Wheel Thrown Sculptures - Cultivating Inner Voice
Clay By The Bay is thrilled to be hosting Tiffany Thomas (@tthomasarts) for our FEBRUARY 2023 workshop artist.
100% of the registration proceeds will be donated DIRECTLY to the artist, to support the ever growing community of talent we strive to nurture
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tiffany Thomas is a native of Florence, South Carolina. Born in 1985, she was raised on a farm and thoroughly enjoyed growing up in a large family. She incorporates her childhood into artwork by surrendering to clay, employing it as a vehicle to showcase her innermost being. Her clay of choice is translucent porcelain, fired with colorful stains and glazes. Her ceramic work focuses on an array of designs; from cups and mugs to light fixtures and table pieces. All of her pieces are hand carved.
Tiffany has exhibited in numerous shows such as a solo show at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; The South Carolina Arts Commission Gala, The North Carolina Museum of Art, The Spartanburg Juried Competition and The Pee Dee Regional art Competition.
Tiffany was also a speaker and demonstrator at the National Conference on Education for the Ceramic Arts in 2022.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Day one: Throwing and altering vessels on the wheel
Day two: Sculpting and developing ideas on vessels
In this workshop, I will guide you to create functional vessels on the wheel. You will intuitively create wheel thrown shapes as I demonstrate different techniques on the wheel. Later, we will work on discovering your inner voice in ceramics while creating sculptural, utilitarian mugs by using molds, natural objects to create texture and carving the clay to create stones. We will also discuss underglaze and glaze application.
