Clay By The Bay is thrilled to be hosting Hector Kriete (@kriete_stoneware) for our APRIL 2023 workshop artist.

100% of the registration proceeds will be donated DIRECTLY to the artist, to support the ever growing community of talent we strive to nurture

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Hector Kriete is a ceramic artist from Cali Colombia, who has been working in the Austin, Texas, community for the past six years. He found his passion for ceramics at an early age, taking his first pottery class in high school.  In addition to making his signature fictional pieces, Hector’s worked with local pottery studios as a production thrower, sells his work at local shops, participates in local and regional art festivals, and teaches pottery classes.

Hector's work is reminiscent of the artesian street markets he grew up with in Cali, rich in color with an earthy essence.  He throws on the potter’s wheel with the purpose of capturing the movement and timing of the lines left by pressure over the spinning clay surface.  His glaze application further accents the patterns created by these throwing lines, and create colorful scapes with depth.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

In this workshop I will demonstrate how to make ceramic water pipes.  We will  start on the wheel to create all the parts necessary for a couple of pieces, one solid, and one with multiple parts.

After drying, we will finish them up with some hand building techniques to  bend, attach, and decorate.  One of the best things about clay it that you get to manipulate it in various stages of the drying process, hold it against your lips, and fully design the entire piece with proper air flow and comfort.

WORKSHOP MATERIALS REQUIRED:

CBTB PROVIDED:
-wheel throwing essentials
-heat gun
-exacto knife
-sculpting tools

WORKSHOP TIME & LOCATION: Friday night will be an Artist Talk from 7-9pm where everyone in the community is invited to meet & greet the artist and hear more about their craft!

Saturday & Sunday from 11am-3pm you will have a reserved seat to learn from the artist and work along side them to expand your ceramic skillset!  Registration will be for BOTH events, and a lunch break will be included.

All activities will be hosted at Clay By The Bay's facilities (1618 Pacific Ave, San Francisco, 94109)

We can't wait for you to join us!
